У монографії на підставі архівних документів, наукових розвідок інших дослідників, а також власних спогадів в монографії висвітлені основні етапи життя, наукова та педагогічна діяльність видатного вченого Петра Мефодійовича Василенка. За багаторічне творче наукове життя він як доктор технічних наук, професор, академік ВАСГНІЛ, академік
Української академії аграрних наук, член-кореспондент Національної академії наук України став визнаним корифеєм у галузі гроінженерії. Його піонерські експериментальні та теоретичні дослідження в галузі землеробської механіки, автоматизації процесів сільськогосподарського виробництва, механізації багатьох її галузей збагатили вітчизняну та світову науку, що знайшло офіційне підтвердження у багатьох країнах світу та міжнародних організаціях. Саме за такий видатний науковий внесок у розвиток агроінженерної науки, а також за створення унікальної наукової школи П. М. Василенко відзначений найвищою нагородою в цій галузі – Золотою медаллю імені В. П. Горячкіна.

[On the basis of archival documents, scientific investigations of other researchers, as well as his own memories, the monograph highlights the main stages of the life, scientific and pedagogical activity of the outstanding scientist P. M. Vasylenko. For many years of creative scientific life, he became a recognized luminary in the field of Agricultural Engineering as a Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor, academician of VASKhNIL (All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the Soviet Union), academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Agraricultural Sciences, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. His pioneering experimental and theoretical research in the field of agricultural mechanics, automation of agricultural production processes, mechanization of many of its branches enriched domestic and world science, which was officially confirmed in many countries of the world and international organizations. Precisely for such an outstanding scientific contribution to the development of agricultural engineering science, as well as for the creation of a unique scientific school of P.M. Vasylenko was awarded the highest award in this field – the Gold Medal of V. P. Goriachkin.
